Costas Spathis a.k.a. @spathumpa is an architect that would always look at the world through geometry. As a little boy, he would think in squares and lines, looking for symmetry up in the sky. Today, he has a following of 152 k on Instagram, that will have definitely grown significantly when these lines are read. When social media created a democratic exhibition space where everyone could share their point of view, Costas became an almost overnight sensation, with a following that hasn’t stopped growing, and a way of using drones and cameras that has evolved into a style of his own.
Traveling around the world, from Hong Kong to the little greek island of Spetses, his images depict the symmetry and balance we, ourselves, cannot yet see, or just haven’t realized is there, looking back at us. His summers are fresh, vibrant and full of life. His seas are beautiful, crisp and frothy. And his subjects are people completely intertwined to their environment, offering their part into the larger scale that is life. Through the lense of @spathumpa, where everything is not as it seems but as it should be.
