Virgil Abloh: Who is the mastermind behind Off-White’s urban dominance

Abloh’s parents are from Ghana. He was raised in Chicago and he received his Masters of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology and his undergraduate in Civil Engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The art director for the 2012 Jay-Z / Kanye West album Watch the Throne, for which he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package, Abloh founded the streetwear label Pyrex Vision in Chicago before shutting it down after just a year to launch the Milan-based fashion label Off-White in 2014 offering high-end men’s and women’s collections.

Since 2014 when he launched Milan-based fashion label Off-White Abloh’s brilliant fashion rules. “My design team is myself. I look at Instagram all day and travel and text with friends” says Abloh who “likens streetwear to disco”.

“Streetwear lived and it died. Now our generation is taking its ideas and mixing them with high fashion. We’re bringing something new to the table” adds the jet-setter.
