The Business/ Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent Is A Best Seller

French luxury conglomerate Kering, which owns renowned brands such as Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta, has announced its annual earnings and Hedi Slimane is a winner. Remember all that press Yves Saint Laurent got when the French born designer decided to drop the “Y” and change the brand’s name to just Saint Laurent? Eventually, “no press is bad press”, as the French luxury brand has just announced that its sales have doubled since hiring Slimane as creative director three years ago. When he took the reins as creative director, Hedi Slimane knew what he was doing, despite the polarizing opinions the designer has drawn. After all fashion is about business and if you’re making bank, you win big time.

2014 sales for the French fashion house which is being transformed into a cool and edgy brand under his rock n roll vision and leadership, surged 27% to €707.3m. Meanwhile, Bottega Veneta jumped 11% to €1.13bn (its revenue has more than doubled since 2010) and “other” luxury brand sales – which include Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen – rose 14% to €1.42bn. Apparently Hedi Slimane rocks.
