Kendall Jenner is the performance artist you didn’t know existed

“But Is It Art?” With an introductory video to the legends of the performance art (Yoko Ono, Marina Abramovic and Ulay, Yves Klein and Murakami Saburo Kendall Jenner is the millennial model turned artist for W Magazine’s tenth art issue.

Courtesy W Magazine. “When you’re a model, you’re a mannequin for other people,” Jenner explains between frames of her fixing her hair. “I want to be the director of my own vision now” she says before paying homage to Yoko Ono’s Cut Piece, Yves Klein‘s Anthropometries, Murakami Saburo’s Passing Through, and Relation in Time by Marina Abramovic and Ulay (which features Gigi Hadid).

Performa’s founder RoseLee Goldberg lends her voice to the introductory video and contemporary artists Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin (both rising stars in the realm of performance art) are altering the reality with Jenner and Hadid two “Placebo Pets”, two “super friendly, domesticated humanoid pets” to underscore what the artists identify as society’s preoccupation with surveillance and stardom.

“We created social media, but then it changed us because we interacted with it. It transforms us and transforms the next thing that happens just by existing. You can’t really avoid being trained” Trecartin explained in a statement.

Trolling or not, Jenner is pulling the strings in the performance art scene of this month in fashion whilst an ever evolving W Magazine proves that it can and will break new ground on what a fashion publication should stand about.

Chief Executive Bob Sauerberg announced that the media company is dividing into five groups—business, editorial, research, technology, and creative—that will take priority over individual brands, with each group working under one leader (Anna Wintour will continue to serve as artistic director), Women’s Wear Daily reports.
