Why Alexander McQueen’s body-con catwalk matters

“What’s the least likely thing you’ll see in a month of womenswear collections? A model with big boobs” writes FT on Sarah Burton’s unapologetic body con take in the season’s Alexander McQueen fashion show.

Featuring Betsy Teske and Eline Lykke as the house’s regulars for the SS18 collection the “plus-size” models became the stars of the catwalk with their voluptuous curves and their “well-endowed femininity”.

This was Burton’s feminist statement on Monday night dressed in deconstructed traditional English clothing and vivid glass organza ball gowns destined to “turn the models into flowers”.

With their curves stating a long-waited body diversity to the Paris Fashion Week runway Eline Lykke and Betsy Teske walked alongside McQueen regulars like Jean Campbell and Lexi Boling.

“The collection was all about sisterhood and celebrating femininity”casting director Jess Hallett commented. With Lykke and Teske on stage the house’s “grace and sensuality” exploded with this line of body-confident, nonstandard models.

Let’s hope the curve will be back with a vengeance.
